Lush “Sleepy”

Please tell me you have all heard of “LUSH”!      I have seriously been obsessed with them for years now.  I have tried about everything they have to offer from bath bombs, bath melts, bubble bars, lip scrubs, body wash, hair conditioners, leave in conditioners, and lotions.  After all this time I think I have finally found the one product I can no longer live without…….Drum roll please, “SLEEPY!”

This beautiful black tub embodies lavender in every way possible, from the long lasting scent that you smell as soon as you open it, to the beautiful light purple color of this rich, creamy, dream.  (Side note: I am not usually a huge fan of lavender but this scent is the perfect balance for me.)

I tend to grab this cream at night right before I head to bed and apply it generously to my arms, hands, and sometimes to my neck and upper chest area.  This lotion has such a calming affect on me.  I just can not seem to get enough!  Is anyone else addicted yet?

Apptiv App!

I am currently in love with the app called Apptiv.  Apptiv is an app that you can listen to at home or at the gym.  You just plug in your head phones  and they have tons of workouts that you can choose from!  You can pick an outdoor walk, treadmill workout, elliptical, core training, stretching, yoga, and many more.  I was extremely skeptical about the whole thing but gave it a try and now I’m hooked!

To back track a little bit I have been pretty unmotivated lately about going to the gym, I mean who isn’t?  So the other night Zak,(my husband), and I were joking around and somehow my foot hit the scale and he said “wait what did that just say!”……Yikes, needless to say, I got motivated real quick.

That night I laid in bed and just tried to think of something I could do that would be more exciting that just going to the gym and doing the same routine as always.  Obviously, that wasn’t really working too well for me.  So I started watching YouTube videos on weight loss and different diets when all the sudden the Apptiv commercial came on.  At first, I was just waiting for the continue to video button but then I started watching and thinking about the idea of giving it a go.  So I downloaded it and took a quick look at it.  I decided that I would give it a try the next morning at the gym.  The next morning I pulled out my phone put the ear buds in my ears and got ready to hate my life for the next 45 minutes.  I stepped on the elliptical and picked out a intermediate workout on Apptiv called “Tabata Takeover.”  It had upbeat pop music with an upbeat voice in my ear telling me exactly what I was to be doing.  The trainer told me what incline and resistance to put my elliptical at and how fast I should be going.

It was mindless…I loved it!

All I had to do was listen and do what I was told to maximize my workout.  It was amazing!  The next day I went back and did a beginner class combined with an intermediate class as well!  I felt amazing!

But, there are a couple of things I don’t love about the app.  I don’t love that they use explicit words in their music.  I mean it’s hard to want to recommend things when you are scared that a song may drop an f-bomb.  I just don’t understand the need, but to each their own.  Also, with that being said you cannot pick your music.  You are constantly listening to a trainer keeping you motivated and they pick the music. I will say though they do keep you motivated to keep moving!  The app is free for your first 7 days but then cost $10 dollars a month.  In my opinion it is well worth it!  It’s been fantastic for me!  It’s helped me get up and want to go and do better everyday!  I recommend it to all!  I fully support it and I have already seen a drastic change in how I feel! Let me know it if you give it a try!  As always thanks for stopping by!

Quick and Easy Spaghetti Squash

Last week I tried something new in my dinner routine.  I tried making spaghetti squash!  It was extremely quick, easy, and delicious!  It was so good that I decided to go ahead and make it again this week!  I absolutely loved it and it is a great way to get your veggies in!

Start by preheating your oven to 375!  Then cut your spaghetti squash in half.  Season your squash with a bit of olive oil, salt, and pepper.  Lay your spaghetti squash face down and bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes.

While that squash is cooking away start on your sauce.  Now listen, we are all different, right?  So with that being said if you don’t like this sauce switch it up and try something you like.  Either way all you need is a little tomato sauce for your squash and BAM, dinner is served!

First cut up a half of a red onion and add a bit of garlic and cook until soft. At the same time I start cooking my Italian sausage.  I just picked this one up from sprouts. I love this one because it is a little spicy and taste delicious! Cook the meat and drain off the extra fat. Then put two cans of Italian chunky tomato’s into a sauce pan.   Add some Italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste.  Once cooked add the sausage in and stir it to combine all the ingredients.

Once the squash is done I take it out of the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes.  I then flip over the squash and start pulling it the flesh with a fork until it becomes stringy. (Also be smart and lay down parchment paper before cooking🙄…)  Then I add the sauce on top of the squash and sprinkle a bit of cheese on top and there you go dinner is served!  This also goes great with a small side salad and or some fresh fruit!  Enjoy!  If you try this let me know!  Thanks for stopping by!

Current Beauty Favorites!

Yes, yes, yes! The following beauty products are worth their weight in gold!  Hold tight as we go for a ride through my top must haves for the season!

1. Kat Von D “Shade & Light” Palette $48.00

Kat Von D’s palette is extremely pigmented.  I barely tap my brush into the color and it glides on with tons of color pay off.  The shadows are creamy and buttery and blend like a dream.  The palette comes with an array of neutral colors that would be pleasing to any skin tone.  This is my every day go to palette and nothing has come close to taking its place so far.  I have so much love for this product!

2. Pixi Skintreats “Glow Mist” 2.7oz $15.00

I have been loving the Glow Mist for prepping my facing for make up.  When I use it I spray a few sprays about 5 minutes before doing my makeup.  It leaves my face feeling slightly tacky to the touch.  I feel like my makeup applies flawlessly and last longer throughout the day.  This product is fairly new to me and I am absolutely loving it so far!

3. Mario Badescu “Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea” 4oz  $7.00

Another spray I have been absolutely been loving is the facial spray by Mario Badescu.  It smells AMAZING and it is cool in refreshing for a midday makeup pick me up.  This spray isn’t going to change your life but it will leave you feeling refreshed!  It gives off a soft mist with that will help set your make up in place for the day!

4. Living Proof “Dry Shampoo” 1.8oz  $12.00

Now when I find a dry shampoo that works I want to share it with the world!  I am dying over this Living Proof Dry Shampoo!  It smells like heaven in an aerosol can, and it give my hair some great southern volume!

5. Anastasia of Beverly Hills “Brow Pomade” $18.00 & Soap and Glory “Brow Archery Volu-Boost Fiber Gel” $14.00

Girls, my brows are sisters not twins and it drives me nuts.  With the help of the Brow Pomade I am able to even out my brows!  The pomade is extremely pigmented and takes a gentle hand and just a bit of patience to figure out the art of filling in your brows but once you do I promise you will feel like you are in brow wonderland!  I set my thin unruly brows with Soap and Glory’s “Brow Archery”.  It helps keep these suckers in place and ads extra fibers to my brows to make them look fuller!  I am in love.

6. Benefit “Hoola Bronzer” Travel Size $15.00

Soooo I really did not want to get on this band wagon.  I waited for a ridiculously long time before deciding that I would give this product a try.  I have always had a hard time finding a bronzer that doesn’t make my face look muddy or like someone just punched me in the face.  Once I finally picked up “Hoola” I couldn’t put it down.  It was like it was made just for me!  Not to dark, not to gray, and warms my face up just enough!  I HIGHLY recommend you try this bronzer if you have had similar issues with bronzers.

7. Sephora Collection “Rouge Lip Tint” $12.00 & Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss $28.00

You know what I absolutely hate?  Feeling like I have lipstick on my teeth or having to worrying about my lip color smearing.  While I was in Texas my mom and I stopped into Sephora and were grabbing a couple of things and I happened to notice these “Rouge Lip Tints” and became pretty curious!  We tried a couple of colors on our hands to see what the color pay off was and we were both impressed.  These lip stains are long wearing and extremely bright and colorful!  Sephora has a wide range of colors online but less in store which is kind of a bummer considering the colors look much different on than they do in the bottle.  I am absolutely loving how affordable they are and how they feel like I am wearing almost nothing!  I do love my dynamic duo of the Lip Rouge and Bobbi Brown’s Lip Gloss.  It is not to sticky and adds a great amount of shine!

Let me know if you have tried any of these products and what y’alls current beauty favorites are!  Thanks for stopping by! XOXO

Spicing Up Your Taste Buds!

Have you ever needed to impress someone with a meal and with little to no time to prepare?  Well fear no more!  I have the most perfect meal that is quick and sure to impress!  Drum roll please!

Cajun fettuccine and apple pie!

I know these two may not sound like a match made in heaven but believe me both are delicious!

Cajun fettuccine

1 lbs shrimp

Andouille sausage

Fettuccine noodles

Heavy cream 1 pint

“Slap ya mama” seasoning or other Cajun seasoning

Parmesan cheese

Bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil and cook your andouille sausage for 20 minutes if needed.  I am only telling you this because I thought mine was precooked and come to find out nope, so it kind of threw my timing off.

Next, boil a large pot of water and follow the directions on the package to cook your fettuccine.

During this time that the fettuccine is cooking, take out a large skillet that is deep and start cooking your shrimp with a small amount of oil.  Season shrimp with garlic and pepper.  You will not need to season with salt because the Cajun seasoning has salt in it.  Once shrimp is pink add cut up andouille sausage.

Next, cover the sausage and shrimp with the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Be careful not to add to much cream just cover the top of the Sausage and shrimp add Cajun seasoning.  Then add noodles, mix, add parsley and cheese on top, and serve!

Yum yum yum!  Absolutely fell in love with this dish!  So quick and so flavorful and delicious!

Excuse this beyond awkward pose but It was hot and let’s just be honest…. I’m an awkward human being sometimes.

Quick and easy apple pie!

Nothing says summer like a slice of apple pie with a scoop of ice cream! This apple pie was surprisingly easy, minus the part when I ripped my pilsbury pie crust not once, but twice and literally had a melt down like a small child. < sorry for the run on sentence.  Just thought I’d share that just so you know things do not always go as planned.

What you’ll need:

6 peeled apples preferably green

2 tbsp of flour

1 cup sugar

A pinch of salt

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1 tbsp lemon juice

Pilsbury pie crust

First start by preheating oven to 425.  Peel apples, which is a pain in the rear, and then cut into thin slices.  Place apple slices into a bowl with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.  Mix all together.

Once mixed together, place pie crust in ungreased pie dish and press firmly.  Add Apple fillings to the pie crust and then lay second pie crust over the top.

You can seal the edge with your fingers or a fork.

Make sure to cut slits in your pie so the steam can be released.

Put foil around the edges so the outter crust does not burn while cooking.  Remove during last 15 minutes.

Bake for 45 minutes at 425 degrees!  This pie made my house smell amazing!  It was the first pie I have ever made and I was so happy with the final proudut!

We let the apple pie sit for about 2 hours somehow and then completely indulged!

I hope y’all will give these recipes a try and let me know what you think! Thanks for stopping by! XOXO!

My Favorite Tortilla Soup!

I love love love tortilla soup! With this past weekend being nothing but cold rain and wind, it felt necessary to make it! This soup is quick, easy, and full of veggies!
Let’s jump right in!
First, heat up some olive oil in a large pot. To the olive oil add a diced red onion and a tbsp on miniced garlic. Sauté onions till slightly translucent.

Then it’s really quick from here!  You simply add two cans of fire roasted tomatoes and two cans of green chilis to the pot.  Then a bag of frozen corn and one to two cups of frozen or fresh carrots depending on your preference!

I love this Roasted Corn from Trader Joe’s! Yum!

At this point when you look down into the pot you’re probably questioning why did I ever try this, because yes, it will look not look appetizing. But trust me folks it gets better!

To your mixture add the juice of one lime and 1 1/2 cartons of low sodium chicken broth! Make sure to season well with pepper and salt!  Keep in mind I use low sodium chicken broth, if you would like to skip adding salt I would suggest getting regualr chicken broth or even one of both!   Also, If you like heat slice up a jalapeño and put that it there as well!

Next bring this to a simmer.  While waiting take a rotisserie chicken and shred the meat for the soup.  Let the soup simmer for about 20 minutes and then lastly add the chicken!

Gunner LOVES chicken, so this begger eventually got a small piece!

I have lovely greasy fingers right?

Stir in your chicken and let it heat through and you are good to go! Put some of your favorite toppings out and holler at your family or friends and get ready to enjoy!

I told y’all this was super easy!  This soup is one of my absolute favorites!  I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!  Thanks for stopping by! XOXO!

P.S. I’m new to Spotify, and I’m loving it so far!  Does anyone have any good suggestions for stations!

A Beginner Gym Routine Workout

Ladies, often times when we walk into the gym we feel so overwhelmed by all the things that it has to offer. We have no idea where to start.  Do we go over to the machines? Do we walk on the treadmill? Do we try to do something with those weights that are on the wall?  I’ve been going to Golds Gym off and on for two years, and when I say off and on I really mean more off then on!  It’s really starting to show, my clothes are tighter and I just don’t feel great about how I look!  It’s so hard to get motivated to get up and go to the gym when you have no idea how to accomplish your goals.  I just wanted to work mainly on tightening my backside aka my Glutes and hamstrings, tightening my core, and work on toning up my arms!  Now bare with me as I try to take you through what a begginers workout can look like!  I may not get all the words right but hey we are learning together right?

Thank you to my dear friend Elijah Bailey who holds a kinesiology degree from UCO and is a personal trainer at Golds Gym! Elijah not only made it fun but he made it very educational and explained why we do each workout!

So Elijah stated that he believes military workout are the best for warming up because it promotes functional fitness that you can use in your everyday life with components of mobility, flexibility, endurance, strength, and they are easy efficient workouts you can do with your friends and no matter the age!  So let’s jump in!

Warm Up!

Wall squats 3X5

For beginners legs shoulder width apart, and squat toward the wall as far down as you can go.  Keep your toes and knees touching the wall.  Elijah suggest trying to keeping your chest and or nose againist the wall as well.

Air Squats 3X15

These are the squats we are all familiar with.  Squat down as far as you can go and use your legs and lift back up.

Goblet Squats 3X10

If you have a bad shoulder modify this exercise by letting the weight hang down and letting it rest on the ground when fully squatted.

Or If you have a normal shoulders squat with the weight held up like a goblet!

Push ups

I am the worlds worst at push ups.  Elijah suggested trying to do 2 every day 1 in the morning and 1 at night, and then 4 ,then 6, then 8, and so on.  Also you should try to bring your body down until you are a fist away from the ground and then raise back up.

Into the workout!

Hip Abductions
You can often finds these machines at your local gym.  Elijah said “I suggested 3X10 because it may only help you get acclimated to the workout with consistent sets and reps, it’s an easier recommendation for reps to focus on breathing but it also is the average set and Rep goal of the ACSM (American Sports College of Medicine) which even at this level offer great benefits of strength, endurance, flexibility, mobility and increased respiratory function.”

I loved working on the machines!  There are instructions right in front of you, and also it shows what muscle groups you are using.  When using the machines make sure to go slow and feel your muscles tightening and contracting!

I was constantly laughing and having a great time during this work out!  If you are looking for someone who will push you to work hard while also making you smile look no further!  Check Elijah Bailey out at Golds Gym!

Prone Leg Curl 3X10

Glute 3X10

Meet my new best friend!  This machine is pure gold!  Not only does it  up your butt but works the front and back of your thighs!  Just rest your elbows and stomach on the pad and kick the bar back and up with each leg one at a time!

We finished up with some crunches and a lower back exercise!

I can’t wait to do this work out again!  Elijah said to make sure to change your workout every 3-4 weeks so if y’all enjoy this post I will make sure to post a follow up workout!

A special thanks to Elijah Bailey for letting me workout with him and being so patient with me! If any of you would like to have a session with him let me know and I will get you in contact with him, or you can reach him at Golds Gym in Edmond off of Bryant and Danforth.
